Arson

Why come to us:

We are one of a handful of UK law firms with lawyers who specialise in advising insurers on claims where arson is suspected. We have ‘hands-on’ experience of fire scenes having attended major incidents with fire fighters. We have developed good working relationships with several fire brigades and police forces, which is of benefit to clients as arson investigations are rarely a priority for the emergency services.

How we can help:

We advise insurers on policy coverage and where false or exaggerated claims are suspected. We are well-versed in how best to accumulate evidence, spot the indicators of fraud, and run an arson investigation. During the course of an investigation we will indicate as early as possible if we think that the correct decision is to pay. We can also assist in setting up fraud management procedures to ensure that the insurer runs the claim, not the claimant.

What we’ve done:

We have saved insurers many millions of pounds in fighting fraudulent claims.

  • Successfully defended the West Midlands fire brigade on a £12 million negligence claim
  • Pursued the recovery of £12 million for a group of insurers following a chemical explosion at the premises of Albright & Wilson;
  • Retained by the ABI Fraud Committee on several high profile matters.

One of our lawyers has attended the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centre in the US and is a frequent commentator on arson prevention.
