Environmental law

Why come to us:

Environmental consultants can advise you on contaminated land and remediation issues but they won’t be able to advise you on liability matters.  That’s what we do.  The number and frequency of European Directives concerning the environment are on the increase.  Our environmental law specialists can advise you on how these are being interpreted in the UK and their relevance to your commercial objectives.

How we can help:

We help clients buy and sell land for development.  Many developments on land will require an environmental statement or as a minimum be assessed as to whether one is required.  This involves a number of legal issues whether or not the land is obviously contaminated.  We carry out the due diligence, we advise on the risks involved and the legal requirements.  If a transaction is involved we work in parallel with your property lawyers and planning advisers.  Or, if required, we will introduce you to our own environmental law specialists.  We also advise clients who face prosecution for pollution and contamination issues.

What we’ve done:

We’ve advised major house-builders on the environmental issues surrounding large and complex development projects, consents and licences.  We’ve worked with land owners and insurance companies and advised them on chemical spills, pollution, contaminated land and asbestos matters.  We have defended a number of environmental prosecutions.
