Sports law

Why come to us:

Umpteen law firms say they are specialists in the sports industry.  They are.  But the majority will only be good at contract negotiation.  Others might say they do sports injuries but their experience may amount to not much more than ‘trips and slips’.  Very few firms can address all of your sport-related issues including complex sports injury claims.  We can.

How we can help:

Our knowledge and expertise spans across the entire sports sector including acquisitions and mergers, broadcast and new media rights, disciplinary disputes, intellectual property, copyright, licensing and merchandising agreements, property development, construction, sponsorship agreements and tax and employment issues for both clubs and individuals.

When it comes to sport injury we’re good at establishing whether there is a claim, and if so, how much it is worth.  We know when to fight and when to settle.  We have sports injury specialists who understand how to analyse a bad tackle and are well-versed in case law.  We know who the experts are, both sport and medical.  Their evidence is crucial when it comes to gauging someone’s future earning potential.

What we’ve done:

The Sports Group, split between Manchester and London, combines specialist sports lawyers with other expert lawyers from across the firm.  The Group has dealt with a number of high profile cases including  football, rugby, tennis, motor racing, boxing, cricket, cycling, horse riding, martial arts, golf, mountain biking as well as obscure sports such as sand yacht racing.
